Research

The research at the Department covers a broad spectrum of fundamental and applied issues in the built society, the physical infrastructure and the environment.

One general focus area at LTH is building technology, where the challenges are to improve productivity, reduce energy consumption, increase quality, improve safety and reduce life cycle costs.

Another challenge for society is to handle the consequences of future climate changes as well as other environmental threats. Understanding physical processes in coastal zones, urban areas and hydrological contexts are crucial.

Today's society is in need of safety against fire and other extreme events as well as risk management. These fields well covered by the competence at the Department.
